GCSE exams have been cancelled this summer, therefore this means that people are being awarded their GCSE grade through teacher assessed grades. These grades are vital especially maths and English for employment, A levels and University. If you are a student in school or college, you will be provided with the teacher assessed grades. If you are not a student in school or college such as an external candidate, homeschooled, an adult learner or you aren’t in mainstream education then it’s more uncertain on how you will receive a GCSE grade. Below, it should help guide you through alternative qualifications and teacher assessed grades.

Teacher assessed grades for those in schools and colleges

You can optimise your grade by trying your best in ongoing work and the mock exams as well as providing extra evidence to your school or college. The extra evidence is an external controlled assessment. MME is a provider that offers the controlled assessments for GCSE maths exam as extra help. The results will be submitted to the college or school to help with the teacher assessed grades.

GCSE Exams and GCSE resits

November 2021 GCSE resits are not cancelled and the iGCSE qualifications are going ahead. You can book with MME as an external candidate to sit the exams, call them on 020 3633 5145 to speak with a member of their team. You can also visit MME’s GCSE maths retake page for more information.

Teacher assessed grades for external candidates

If you are not a student at a school or college such as someone who is homeschooled, you are outside of full time education or an adult learner, MME and GCSE examiners have come up with an assessment for you. They have come up with a series of assessments you can sit so you can obtain a GCSE grade for summer 2021. You are able to book for the assessments via the dedicated page, GCSE maths controlled assessment.

Alternatives to GCSE exams and teacher assessed grades

As well as the GCSE exams, you can obtain alternatives. Alternative qualifications are accepted by most employers and Universities and you will see the phrase ‘Give your GCSE or GCSE equivalent qualifications’ when you are applying. Functional skills is another name for GCSE equivalent qualifications and they are accepted by the vast majority of employers and Universities since it is a level 2. Below, there are links that will help you to understand more about functional skills:

Nurses and Trainee Teachers

GCSE equivalency test is another alternative qualification instead of a GCSE grade. This qualification is popular amongst trainee teachers and trainee nurses, however this qualification isn’t universal therefore you should check with course providers and employers before you go ahead and book the exam. SCITT’s and most training providers prefer this qualification over functional skills.
